We are thrilled to share some incredible news regarding one of our own. April Green, Discovery Teacher at Cowan Elementary and our current District Novice Teacher of the Year, has been officially named a Semi-Finalist for the 2026-27 Tennessee Novice Teacher of the Year!

Being selected as a semi-finalist is a significant statewide honor. It recognizes early-career educators who demonstrate exceptional skill, innovation, and a deep commitment to student success. Out of a competitive pool of talented new teachers across the state, April’s impact in the classroom has placed her among the top candidates for this prestigious distinction.

Principal Cynthia Young shared:
"Cowan Elementary is beyond thrilled... April has demonstrated an incredible passion for education and a deep commitment to her students' success. This recognition is a direct reflection of the energy, innovation, and care she brings to her classroom every single day."

As a district, we are incredibly proud of April’s achievement. Her success highlights the talent and dedication found throughout our schools and reminds us of the vital role our "novice" teachers play in shaping the future of our students.

Dr. Roger Alsup

 

The Franklin County Board of Education is proud to announce that Dr. Roger D. Alsup has been named our next Director of Schools, effective July 1, 2026! Dr. Alsup is a familiar face to many of us, currently serving as our Deputy Director. He previously served as Principal of Franklin County High School, where he was named the 2021 Principal of the Year and led the school to a Level 5 TVAAS growth rating. "I am truly honored to step into the role of Director of Schools for Franklin County," said Dr. Alsup. "My focus remains clear: keeping our schools safe and ensuring Franklin County continues the push in academic acheivement." Join us in congratulating Dr. Alsup on his new role! Jenny Crabtree

We are thrilled to announce that Jenny Crabtree has been named the district’s new Deputy Director, Human Resources Supervisor, and Federal Programs Supervisor, effective July 1, 2026! Mrs. Crabtree is a true cornerstone of our school family, having dedicated 36 years to the Franklin County School System. Her journey began in the classroom teaching 1st and 2nd grades, and her passion for our students and staff has only grown since then.

Incoming Director of Schools Dr. Alsup shared his excitement for the appointment:
"Mrs. Crabtree is a steady, approachable leader who recognizes that our staff is our most valuable resource. Her ability to navigate complex challenges—while keeping the focus on our students and educators—is a great asset."
